The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Thet also ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to the organizational values of the enabling staff, volunteers, and Partners.

Youth will be educated in the technical aspects of Windows Server and Linux/Unix Administration, and will be prepared to assume responsibility for the management, operation and oversight of these systems.


  • Provides 11th and 12th graders with the opportunity to develop skills in building, installing, and repairing computers and basic networks. Youth study computer hardware, operating principles, system configuration, operating systems, troubleshooting, and an introduction to networking.
  • Creates youth who can be responsible for the secure design, implementation and maintenance of networked systems. Key concepts such as routing, switching, server operating systems, email systems, IP Telephony, wireless and virtualization will be explored in detail.
  • Provides competency in: Network security, compliance and operational security, threats and vulnerabilities, application, data and host security, access control and identity management, cryptography.
  • Students will be exposed to the process of establishing and using a troubleshooting methodology, as well as the Windows 7 Enterprise Desktop Support Technicians (EDSTs) Tier 2 support environment, job role and responsibilities. Additionally, students will be exposed to various troubleshooting tools and techniques that enable them to address the common Windows 7 issues in an enterprise network environment.
  • Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) is Microsoft’s newest suite of technology certification exams that validate fundamental knowledge needed to begin building a career using Microsoft technologies. This course helps the student prepare for Microsoft Technology Associate Exam 98-365, and build an understanding of these topics: Server Installation, Server Roles, Active Directory, Storage, Server Performance Management, and Server Maintenance.
  • An IT professional who has earned the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) is able to perform the core system administration skills required in Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments. Our youth will earn this credential after successfully completing our training course and passing the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Exam (EX200).
